HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

North SAR (Search and Rescue) reflects our organization’s purpose and our  geographical location as a Certified Unit of  MASAR  (The Maine Association  for Search and Rescue).   We participate in S&R  with the  Maine Warden Service, Baxter State Park and the Maine Marine Patrol.

Our members’ volunteer services  include safety for the Bangor Park District’s Kenduskeag Canoe Race, the Machias Canoe Race, Ice Fishing Derbies and educational presentations of Search and Rescue  practices and activities to schools and to other community organizations.

Our members enjoy the Maine woods, mountains and waters and share a desire to give back to the community. Membership is open to adult volunteers either working toward or who already meet MASAR standards.

We partner in search, training and other activities with other SAR organizations. Dual memberships with other MASAR member units are welcomed.

Members buy their personal equipment and pay their travel expenses. North SAR,  is a  Tax exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation .
