Welcome to North Search and Rescue, a volunteer-driven Search and Rescue (SAR) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) serving Penobscot County and greater Maine since 2022. We work with the Maine Warden Service and are proud to partner with the Penobscot County Emergency Management Agency to enhance community safety and resilience, and with Baxter State Park providing SAR coverage.
Our team brings together individuals from diverse personal and professional backgrounds, united by decades of collective experience in wilderness first response. With a shared love for Maine's woods, mountains, and waters, we are committed to giving back to our community through dedicated service.
North SAR welcomes adult volunteers willing to pursue and maintain Maine Association for Search and Rescue (MASAR) certification standards. We also actively collaborate with other SAR organizations on searches, training, and other initiatives. Membership in multiple MASAR units is encouraged. We meet on the first Monday of each month.
Our insignia is a panorama of Katahdin, the tallest peak in Maine and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. North SAR was born around numerous late-night campfires in the shadow of this majestic mountain.
As a MASAR-certified unit and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, North SAR is dedicated to professionalism, training, and community service. Thank you for visiting our site and supporting our mission to serve and protect the people and wilderness of Maine.
